Safeguarding

Keeping Children Safe

Guiseley Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection Policy which can be viewed on our Policies page. You can also click here to see a copy of our school Child Protection Policy.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies, when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.

Our Designated Lead for Safeguarding Children (DSL) is Mrs Bradbury. She is supported by two Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads; Miss Adair who is our Deputy Headteacher and Mrs Hewitt who is our Learning Mentor. In addition, we have a Nominated Safeguarding Governor, who ensures school policies and practice are robustly implemented, this is Mr Graham Jarvis.

The main work of a Safeguarding Lead is to:

  • Make sure all staff are aware how to raise safeguarding concern
  • Ensure all staff understand the symptoms of child abuse and neglect
  • Refer any concerns to social care
  • Monitor children who are the subject of child protection plans
  • Maintain accurate and secure child protection records

What does the law say schools must do? The Department for Education's key document is called keeping-children-safe-in-education--2019. It is a statutory requirement that all staff working in school adhere to the guidance set out in this document.
